Ah, that explains it -- I think it's mostly a choice of how to
structure your pages.
Checking here, we've got some stuff which is 5 deep:
root
: hardware[vs software]
: firmware [vs general hardware stuff, ie hardware:tooling]
: projects [vs general firmware stuff, ie firmware:CPUs]
: projectname
: documentation [vs (say) schedule, team, etc]
I'm sure that could be flattened out a bit, the 'projects' namespace
isn't necessary, all the projects in there could live in the firmware
namespace at the same level as the other namespaces there, but it seems
to have made people happier to set it up with this much depth.
There's also a 'personal pages' namespace which would fairly easily get
a lot of depth; each person gets their own namespace to play in (there's
no ACL to enforce this, but it seems to have been easier for people to
keep track of things this way)
I could see something like:
root
: users
: username
: work-related
: work-stuff-page-1
: work-stuff-page-2
: non-work-related
: food-i-like
: music-i-like
: general stuff
: band1
: members
: discography
: band2
: members
: discography
I think this is mostly a matter of how you choose to design things,
though. That latter one could just as easily be
root
: users
: username
...
: band-1-members
...
: band-2-discography
which would keep the hierarchy much shallower.

Yup, in that situation it definitely seems more reasonable; I haven't
added any of the logging stuff to see how people are using our wiki, but
it would be interesting to trace how people get from page to page as
well as how many times a particular page is viewed.
