[JS] While you are correct now, this might be changing. As I understand it,
UTF-8 UIDs are in the works so Western conventions might become much less
universal.

If multiple calendars were implemented, they would have to be part of a
user's profile. As of now, a user cannot even control the display of
Gregorian dates: this is set at the Wiki level. I'm surprised that nobody
has been squealing about that. In a previous life I worked on some
international projects, and the number of formats that countries wanted, and
their unwillingness to adopt a single standard, convinced me to hide under
my desk when such "opportunities" came my way.

I wonder how many different calendars are in use, world-wide. Based on the
relevant article in Wikipedia, the Gregorian calendar is used for civil and
business matters even in many countries that have national or religious
calendars of their own.

What WOULD be useful to me would be something that displayed the holidays in
different countries and religions, but that isn't really a dokuwiki issue.
