Nick,

I didn't see your posting at first because it was not sorted into "my"
thread. I found out that everything works fine when I change
> $conf['auth']['ldap']['server'] = 'brodel.med.utoronto.ca';
to
 $conf['auth']['ldap']['server'] = 'ldap://brodel.med.utoronto.ca:389';
- well, actually I used my own server, not yours ;-)

I found this hint on php.net when I searched for default ports. And when I
entered my hint on the DokuWiki wiki, I found a similar phaenomenon
described for Kolab's OpenLDAP - or maybe this is just a workaround for the
same thing.

HTH,
Werner
