Jason, I agree a more flexible mechanism is needed... at the moment there appears to be only http://wiki.splitbrain.org/plugin:template_chooser which I haven't tried, and requires hacking various js bit and which might be out of date...
Yes, that's right. I am talking about the page templates used when editing pages, not the layout templates.
The template chooser requires too much action for the user and also requires javascript, which takes it out of the picture for me. Also, it didn't seem to be able to automatically put in different templates depending on URL parameters, though I suppose that functionality could be added.
So I guess this answers my question that no, the functionality doesn't exist right now, but I'm more than welcome to write it! :)
