Hi list, in the dokuwiki at splitbrain.org I used a special E-Mail
Adress from spamgourmet.com to sign some of my post.

Dokuwiki uses mailguard = visible - replaces @ with [at], . with
[dot] and - with [dash] and today I received the first spam-mail to
this adress from "Gold Lottery" (I am ritch now).

I guess the adress harvesters have changed their programms to
replace [at] back to @, so the visible mailguard sould not be
assumed to be safe anymore.

No anti-spam mechanism is 100% safe! It never was.
During the years the mailguard set to "visible" might change from 90% safe to 85% safe and less ... *shrug*

Exactly.

Interesting nontheless. I did have a quick look at the code. For
adding other methods (eg. use an image for the @ or even create an image
for the whole address) we would either need to change the obfuscate
function or move some handling out of this function...

I'd like to get the input of others - especially reusers of this
function (eg. Plugin authors). Do we need better obfuscation? Or can we
live with what we have?

Although I don't think too much care should be spent on mail obfuscation (because at one point it always seems useless and frustrating anyway), I'd like it to be a bit better.
What about at least a combination of 'visible' and 'hex'?
And I wouldn't mind a third and/or fourth obfuscation mode either ...
