For what it's worth, when my hosting company moved things around I had to change permissions; I used to have everything set to 777 on the previous server, but on the newer one that wouldn't work, I had to set the directories to 755 and the PHP files themselves to 644. Then again, if I just set everything to 777, I got "500 internal server error" back, so this may not be your problem.
