Thanks a lot Guy for the link, I now understand why my
/data/changes.log is not getting updated and why stats plugin does not
seem to work anymore. But even after applying the patch,I am facing
the problem of PHP version 4.. as pointed out on the stats plugin page
(strpbrk function)
Can you please tell me any hack for this, which does not use PHP5 please?

 The new release has a different mechanism to store the changes and

 If the stat plugin has not been updated it won't be able to work
 properly. See http://wiki.splitbrain.org/plugin:stats as there is a
 change to the plugin which seems to let it work with the new
 changelog code.
