I only used it once, about a week ago, and did get images in the ODT file.
(Latest stable Dokuwiki and ODT plugin)

I did however have trouble scrolling through the resulting file. Both
OpenOffice.org 3.1 and NeoOffice 2.2.5 would open the file, but only allow
scrolling up until halfway through the document, after which both froze and
finally just flat-out crashed.
This was with a relatively large document though. Some 40 pages, some 50
images. Might have played a role -- be it in the odt plug-in, or the
OpenOffice engine...
