Harry, your links were helpful, especially with giving me words to google for.
Thanks.
Andi, I'm really curious about what you might learn. Hope you get the job.
In retrospect, this line of thinking gives me confidence:
(1) Web servers have been using load balancing for a long time, so presumably
the problem is solved for static pages (though this is likely done by a
load-balancing front-end).
(2) Since it must be possible to update the redundant static pages of (1),
Dokuwiki instances could share locking (e.g. via a shared database) and hold
each lock until the redundant update completes.
A fully native redundant file system would be optimal, though.
