Ah, I had always assumed that "\\" was just to make an existing newline
actually work, e.g. in normal text:-

    Here is a line of text\\
    and this will be on the next line.

I hadn't realised that \\ will actually *force* a newline, thank you!

Yes, the documentation does tell me, I'd just used them previously at
the end of a line.
