[dokuwiki] Installing Dokuwiki on hosted webspace

Hi,
I am trying to install dokuwiki on a hosted webspace (by a commercial host)
which uses a seperate data directory which is hidden unaccessible by the web,
but accessible by scripts.
Is it possible to modify dokuwiki so that it will work with this? I havent got
any success with it for now.
