[dokuwiki] How to get media to work?

Hi,

I am using dokuwiki from the Debian package 0.0.20050713-2, and I
cannot get media to work.
$conf['fsdir']       = '/home/mh/.www/data/wiki.zugschlus.de';
$conf['datadir']     = $conf['fsdir']. '/data';

When I click on the "Add images and other files" button in the editor,
A popup is opened to "http://wiki.zugschlus.de/lib/exe/media.php?ns=";,
which is empty (no HTML code at all). access.log shows a 200 return
code and 5 bytes being delivered.

Additionally, when I manually place files in
/home/mh/.www/data/wiki.zugschlus.de/media/, the corresponding links
(which probably are
http://wiki.zugschlus.de/lib/exe/fetch.php?cache=cache&media=$FILENAME)
deliver empty pages with 5 bytes as well.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
