I think those examples are way too many. Maybe a compromise between a very small subset (I suggested 4) and a full set of all possible variants would do:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
 text, text_hi, background, background_hi, neutral, neutral_hi
 extern, existing, missing
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Whereas neutral and neutral_hi would be neutral colours between the four other dominating colours. (Neutral in the default template: #66666 and #f5f5f5).

Can we agree on these nine?

Agreed :-).

Hallo list!

I just sent a patch to Andi in which this issue has been fixed.
I have posted further information for developers on http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:devel:css#pattern_replacement.

Instead of "_hi" and "neutral" I chose to name the other background and text colours "_alt" for alternative (meaning the dominating background or text color beside the main colors) and "_neu" for neutral (meaning a third colour couple which is more seldom and only used, when a difference to the second is needed). And I added "border".

I left out extern, existing and missing, because they wouldn't be needed by plugins (only the css classes of the links), would they?

Any comments? Wishes? Complaints?

There might be reasonable complaints concerning other changes I made: I omitted one colour and switched a few others ...
