The question of adding a forum pops up from time to time - not only here
but on the flyspray mailinglist where I am subscribed, as well.

There are two points why I (and others as well) am reluctant of a forum.

1) A forum is useless without good moderation. Unlike a Wiki it isn't
selfregulating. New users tend to add their questions at the end of
completely unrelated threads, ask questions in the wrong sections and do
all kind of stuff that annoys the experienced users. You offered to
moderate which would at least solve this problem.

2) The more important problem I see is that it splits the community
and it's discussions into list- and forum ones. Feature requests
and bug reports would pop up in both worlds and be discussed seperately.

The ideal case would be a hybrid between forum and mailinglists. The
only software I know capable of this is Mailgust but this is not fully
open source. Somewhat similar would be google's groups... Maybe even
freelists could come up with an solution?

Just my 0.02$ that's not the last word in adding a forum. I'm just not
convinced yet ;-)
