Well, I don't know. Forums are a good thing, if your interested in one special
topic for a while but then don't bother about it any more. They seem to attract
a lot more beginner level people but not so many advanced users.

IMHO it's because you have to visit them regularly to keep up with what's going
on, whereas with mailing list you just keep on getting the posts and if
somethings occurs that interests you, you can intervene. So, in my experience,
in web forums the newbies just remain among their own, because no advanced
users bother to follow the discussions.

I'd suggest setting up a dokuwiki-help list instead. Nowadays with GMane and
the likes you don't have to worry about preserving old posts...
