Hallo list!

In short, here are my two cents on a DokuWiki forum as well:

What is the difference between a mailing list and a forum? IMHO, a forum is
just another approach and visualization of a mailing list. The good thing
about a forum is that it is easier for newbies to access and therefore
easier for them to ask questions ...

I am against two different discussion possibilites (mailing list AND forum),
unless different user groups are *clearly* targeted. So a forum would be
good for users who do not want to join the list, because they want to ask
"one way-questions"! (There might be other reasons, but this reason would be
the main one, don't you think?)
But then again, I am against separation of "user types" (WE and THEM) ...

The wiki is not a good place for discussion! (At least, if there are no
discussion pages like in mediawiki or with plugins or templates.)
I do not like the existing discussions on wiki.splitbrain.org as well. They
seem to be out of place somehow ...

IMHO, a mailing list is there to discuss "at the moment" and therefore the
data is of a temporary kind.
A forum is also there to discuss "at the moment", but keeps data longer.
(Mailing lists keep their data probably archived as long as forums, but the
forum data is more seizable.) That is my problem with forums: They keep old
data, but "pretend" not to do so ... [I am not much of a forum user, so my
opinion might be incomplete and biased here.]
And a wiki should be there to keep data (and improve on it) *in the long
run*!

The idea I like the most is a hybrid thing mentioned by Andi!
