[dokuwiki] Disabling namespaces in DokuWiki?

Hi everyone.

Searching the site and the list archives, I have not found a way to
disable the namespaces feature in DokuWiki. Is it possible to
configure it?
Primarily, I want to turn off the feature that places a new page link
in the same namespace as the current page. The workaround is
to prepend a colon to all wiki links:

[[:banana]]

but I don't want to require all users to know about this workaround...
