Here is a belated summary of the changelog survey that was started while I was working on the new changelog code. All these statistics relate to the old changelog format.


There were 4 responses with over 1000 changelog lines.
On average the files used 57 bytes per line.
The average number of bytes per line was not related to the file size.
The reported lines ranged from 1704 to 24834 with an average of 13554 lines.
The average bytes per line fluctuated from 47 to 66 bytes/line.


I originally thought this data would be used to guesstimate the number of bytes needed to read one changelog line. However this was more informational than practical because I later found a more elegant way to handle the changelog.
