[dokuwiki] Re: Attachment (Media File) History

Huge doesn't mean complicated. It means a bigger hard drive.

I would like for the wiki to capture the history of an image, or any media file for that matter, into the history of the page. I know it can make it a bit complicated, and involves more than just text, but well, don't we always want more out of our tools? If an image shared by multiple pages gets updated, the user could be given the choice to update only the page for which the new media upload is intended, or all the pages that the media is currently on (with an advancement of each page's history). Of course a multiple select control could be given that contains all the pages that should get the new version of the image. Then going through history would still mean going through the history of a page, and there would have to be no visible attachment history (although one exists to maintain the old versions around).

Well, to tell you the truth: Old versions just aren't saved.

The whole truth is that all wiki's in the world manages text and their versions and none that I know of (even among commercial ones) does the same with media.

---> do correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll be most happy to acknowledge !

Remember that wiki's were designed to be simple... (that's why they are so readily accepted) That having n versions of a single multi-mega media file is quite ... huge.
