Well, to tell you the truth: Old versions just aren't saved. There
exists a feature request for this in the bugtracker since some time, but
afaik nobody has yet been working on it. I've added that media log
before the release, but it is nothing more than a log and most useful
for clients using the XML-RPC interface to fetch media data and who want
to know if anything and if yes which files have changed (and need to be
refreshed). This is also the only place where this log is used at the
moment. (Apart from plugins I am not aware of.)

There exists also another feature request for an RSS feed with these
changes. But imho that doesn't make much sense as long as there is no
real history for files. I think this feature would really be nice and
probably it isn't too difficult to be implemented, it's just that nobody
has considered it important enough to work on it.
