Science, Technology & Business Discovery Series February 20th - RSVP today!
Can Environmental Exposures Affect Human Fertility?
Speaker: Dr. Patricia Hunt, Meyer Distinguished Professor
Washington State University School of Molecular Biosciences
Date: Friday, February 20, 2009 7:30 - 9:00 am
Location: The Spokane Club, 1002 W. Riverside Ave, Spokane 99201
Due to a fluke in the lab in 1998, geneticist Dr. Patricia Hunt discovered
the negative effects that certain chemicals in plastics - such as those
found in water bottles - have on the female reproductive system. Join us at
the Science, Technology & Business Discovery Series on February 20th to
learn more about Dr. Hunt's groundbreaking research on the effect of
environmental toxins on human fertility.
Dr. Hunt's research has been described in articles appearing both in print
(in The Washington Post, L.A. Times, and USA Today) and radio/television (on
NPR and CBS). In 2007, she was named one of the top 50 researchers of the
year by Scientific American. Her work on human eggs has provided valuable
new information about the effect of maternal age on the genetic quality of
human eggs and, unexpectedly, new insight to the effect of smoking on
chromosome behavior in eggs from young women. Dr. Hunt's research has been
continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for over 15 years,
and she is currently supported by grants from NICHD and NIEHS. She
participates in professional activities at the local, national, and
international level, including service on editorial boards of several
journals, NIH review panels and strategic planning groups, organizing and
chairing international conferences, and teaching in and co-directing the
Frontiers in Reproduction summer course at the MBL, Woods Hole, MA.
Please RSVP by NOON on Tuesday, February 17th
