[ddots-l] sound forge question

Hello,
When I open a file in soundforge, and go to read the meters with f11 or f12,
jaws is saying "you must be either inthe record dialogue box, or be playing
with the meters in order to get peak levels," or something along those lines.
How do i fix this? The problem started happening recently.
