[ddots-l] Re: sonar 4 and vsts

Gord,
if I put a VST in the effecs bin of an audio track, such as
Atmosphere, and then opent the track inspector for that audio track and
go to the effects tab and then select the third display state, I can see
and highlight the VST in the Effects Bin. When I hit the applications
key, I don't get a reassign option. I get the following
Upon highlighting the VST, JAWS says," Atmosphere Effect. Press
Enter to open this effect's dialog."
If I choose the applications key, JAWS says, "Applications.
Context menu. Delete." Down arrowing yields
"Bypass Bin, Arm Parameter, Audio Effects Submenu, DXI Submenu."
There's no reassign option. I have seen that option but can't
remember the situation that gave it to me.
If I hit enter to open the DXI's effects dialog, I get the graphical
interface for Atmosphere. Since I can see it, I can move around with a
mouse, or I can route JAWS to PC and arrow until I hear JAWS start
spelling words one letter at a time. If I get in the right box, I can
open the drop down menus that allow me to select banks and patches.
However, like in the case of V Sampler 3, there's really no way to get
there without looking. In fact, it's even worse than V Sampler because,
at least in that case, you had a semi-work-around more or less. In this
case, I can't think of one.

Press the applications key and up arrow to the reassign submenu, then
right
arrow and you'll see a list of all the available parameters. Press
enter on
the one you want and you'll be right on that parameter and ready to
change
it.

Well, as I said, directixer has an option that will expose any
automatable parameter on many soft synths and effect plug-ins in a list
box, bypassing the graphical display completely. The track inspector
can only display four parameters at a time, so you need to reassign the
four widgets to display other parameters. The advantage to this method
is that you can automate any of these parameters in Sonar so that they
can be changed from within your project. Gord

So if one could choose between Cakewalk VST wrapper and the directixer,
the directixer would be better? Can you please explain why it is better?
I have only used the cakewalk VST wrapper so far. Thanks. Jeanette

Sonar does include the cakewalk vst wrapper. The advantage of using
directixer is that the parameters of many plug-ins can be exposed from
within the property window of the plug-in itself. If you use the
cakewalk
wrapper, you'll need to access the parameters from within the track
inspector. This is certainly a viable alternative now.

If I have sonar 4, do I still need to get Directixer?
Isn't there a plugin that does the work?
  thanks.
