Gord,
If you can change parameters in a soft synth in the inspector,
which tab do you need to be in in the inspector to use the assign
option? Should you be in the Effects, EQ, Sends or Volume tab to make
such a change? Which parameters of a soft synth can you change? I'm
trying to compensate for the fact that none of the soft synths I own are
visible in DirectiXer. Also, should you be on a softsynth's audio or
MIDI channel to make such a change?

Press the applications key and up arrow to the reassign submenu, then
right
arrow and you'll see a list of all the available parameters. Press
enter on
the one you want and you'll be right on that parameter and ready to
change
it.

Well, as I said, directixer has an option that will expose any
automatable parameter on many soft synths and effect plug-ins in a list
box, bypassing the graphical display completely. The track inspector
can only display four parameters at a time, so you need to reassign the
four widgets to display other parameters. The advantage to this method
is that you can automate any of these parameters in Sonar so that they
can be changed from within your project. Gord

So if one could choose between Cakewalk VST wrapper and the directixer,
the directixer would be better? Can you please explain why it is better?
I have only used the cakewalk VST wrapper so far. Thanks. Jeanette

Sonar does include the cakewalk vst wrapper. The advantage of using
directixer is that the parameters of many plug-ins can be exposed from
within the property window of the plug-in itself. If you use the
cakewalk
wrapper, you'll need to access the parameters from within the track
inspector. This is certainly a viable alternative now.

If I have sonar 4, do I still need to get Directixer?
Isn't there a plugin that does the work?
thanks.
