Actually the soprano voice will remain the same through out all for verses. he second soprano and first and second alto will have different notes for each verse of lyrics. Example "shepherds why with jubilee?" at the beginning of verse 2 will start and end differently then verse 4 "See him in the manger lay." Is that really clear or Is that as clear as mud? *grins*

Sarah,

Not sure if I completely understand. Are you saying that verse 2 is tied to
a voice 2 and therefore the words are set to different notes than voice 1?

If so, then here's what I suggest:

1. Set each part as a separate staff, one each for S, A, T, B.
2. Set lyrics to each of those staffs, and each will be a verse 1 lyric.
3. Then set both the notes in the A staff and the lyrics to voice 2.
4. Cut and paste both the notes and lyrics (voice 2) to the staff containing
your S part.
5. Set the b staff notes to voice 2 along with its lyrics and again cut and
paste them to the staff with the T part.
6. Delete the two empty staffs.
7. Now you should have two staffs with two voices each, and lyrics tied to
those voices, S/A in the upper staff, T/B in the lower.
8. Then You should select the lyrics of voice 2 only on the upper staff and
use the Style menu to change it to lyrics below the staff. I think that's in
the text styles menu. Ditto for the voice 2 lyrics in the lower staff.
9. If I've guessed right then you should have lyrics above and below
correctly tied to the voices.

Just guessing, as I've never done this, so no guarantees.

I suggest you also go to the http://www.sibelius.com/helpcenter site and
become a subscriber to their chat page. It's chock full of experts in
Sibelius. Post your question there, make sure they know you're blind so that
they don't try to have you using the mouse and see what happens. They're a
great bunch of users.

OK, this might seem stupid but I'll ask anyway. I know to hit enter after
the first set of lyrics, but what if the notes on the moving parts are
different every time? This is not your conventional hymn. Thanks.

Sarah,

sure, it's relatively easy for the verse 1 lyrics, not so easy for others.

Verse 1 lyrics: Use the Double Ctrl-F3 find to look for lyrics. It will
find
the first word and then you can just press
F3, hear the note, and also the lyric.

Others are not so easy.

Verse 2: First select all with Ctrl-A. Then Ctrl-f to open the find
dialog.
tab through the various items to select text items and be sure to only
select the lyrics verse two text type. Then press Alt-F to find the first.
for this you'll need to press Enter to hear the first lyric and Esc to
close. Then F3 will find each subsequent verse 2 lyric and sound the note,
just as in verse 1.

I didn't try verses 3 and 4 but they may work the same. However if you're
doing a standard SATB then the other verses 3 and 4 will be the same as
verse 1 and 2 but on the next staff below.

Have fun.

Subject: [ddots-l] question about lyrics

Hello. Is the an easy way to write lyrics? I have to write 4 verses of
angels we have heard on high for SSAA and each verse has different notes.
I
have to get this done before we actually sing this. and also is there an
easier way of checking the lyrics. I have Ben tabbing through the score to
check that they are there, but I don't want to hit enter just to see what
it is and hit escape. Thanks all.
