Hello:
Well, the truth is that when you come right down to it, if you want a really
natural sounding feel, you shouldn't quantize it at all. Unfortunately,
none of us (or I should say most of us), are not going to play a drum part
tight enough especially when using a midi keyboard. If you have your drum
parts separated, e.g. the kick on a track by itself, you might want to try
just quantizing the kick, and maybe the hi hat, then leave the snare and
toms unquantized so that you can have flams and drags if you want. Now, all
this being said, this is where session drummer comes in. Many of the
included patterns are recorded purposely with a loose unquantized feel to
make them sound like a real drummer.

if you are using the right note resolution for quantizing and you still
don't like the result you can edit the notes in the event view. just
divide the ticks between the number of notes, if you want a 8th note
divide in 2, for sixteenth to 4 and for eight triplets by 3 and so on

Hola,
Anyone have any good tips on quantizing beats after they are programmed
using Sonar/soft synts?
I've red over the tutorial stuff on it but still can't quite get the
patterns to line up and swing quite right. Somehow even after tweaking
the quantize peramiters, even simple little kick, snare ride combos have
been coming out robotic. I mean I've got nothing against the robots but
when they start to take over I need to turn to someone for help. (smile)
Also, if anyone has been using the "groove quantize " feature, I'd be
curious to know how it works.
Thanks a million!
