He isn't using any MS wavetable synth or anything like that. He said that he's
using the TTS-1 template, which only uses TTS-1 for softsynth sounds. Plus, the
TTS-1 template already uses the proper audio routings. He's definitely got his
audio options set correctly, or else the demo projects wouldn't play.
The reason that he's not hearing anything is because he doesn't have any of his
MIDI input ports enabled in Options|MIDI Devices. That's how he can see MIDI
activity at the interface, and hear audio come out of the interface, but can't
trigger the softsynths.

Omar you are right, and most likely this has not been done if the synth is
coming out of the system card, unless he's using a wave table from the system,
such as the microsoft wavetable synth or the yamaha gm/xg playback synth.
Otherwise, Ivan you'll have to go to options, audio, and set your audio
interface as the main driver, and shoose either wdm or acio to operate in, even
though i believe wdm is selected by default.

if all your recording and playback options are set to your external soundcard
in the "audio option," doesnt the audio track output of the softsynth
automatically get routed to the soundcard once you insert it? I know it does
for me.

Hi Ivan.
OK, on the audio track that's is associated with the soft synth's midi
track, make sure you're on the track layer that says "custom". You do this
by pressing shift and left or right arrow.
When you're on the "Customer" track view, press hold down shift and press
letter o twice quickly.
This will take you to the audio output section.
press enter on it and use the up and down arrow keys to locate either the
master or your sound card.
When you've found what you want, press enter again.
Cheers
Darren
