No I don't think it has anything to do with it being connected via USB.

thank you i tried that and unfortunately i still have the delay. I have noticed my midi controler is listed in midi options twice. it says m-audio 1 and m-audio 2 i wonder if that could be part of the problem. Or do u think it could be because it is hooked up by u s b? I appreciate all the help.

Try getting on the audio track of one of the synths you
insert. Then turn
the audio engine off and back on by holding alt then
pressing z. I had this
problem recently, and that's what i did to fix it.
