Hi,
I am using a small mackey. Its the one they sell for about
a hundred bucks and has two microphone inputs, one in channel 1 and
one in channel 2, both with phantom power if required. Then there
are two sterio channels, each of which has a mono input. I have the
main outs connected to channels 1 and 2 of my delta 1010. When I use
the mixer for dj engagements, I plug my computer into these two mono
inputs and put the pan on one all the way right and the pan on the
other all the way left, thus yielding a nicely separated sterio image
through the speakers. I assume that connecting the motif to this
little guy should be done the same way to achieve a sterio track in
sonar, but it doesn't seem to work out that way as I cannot get
sterio in my projects.
I have a large 24 channel mackey in my basement, which, when
I have the space and the extra muscle around, I'd like to move up
into my studio, though its way way more complicated than I now know
how to use properly. That's why I thought I'd start out simply using
the little mackey.

Yes, you will need to connect the audio outputs of your otif to your
mixer, then send a pair of outputs of the mixer to the inputs of
your sound card. WHat kind of mixer do you have?

Hi,
I'm still a babe in the woods with all of this midi
stuff. I've gotten the instrument definition file for my motif es
8 and so now I can find and select a patch. So, I have feedback
and the computer and motif seem to be able to communicate. I am
still wondering, though, how to convert the midi tracks into
audio. Do I need to connect the audio outputs of the motif into
my mixer, besides connecting my motif, via the midi in and out to
the delta 1010 that I am using? If I use a soft synth, i e the
one that ships with sonar producer 4.x, I can export the track to
a wave file. So, trying to get a grip on all of this, what do I
need to do if I select, say, a clean jazz guitar sound on the
motif, to get into a mix. And, for some reason, even if I use the
soft synth, why does the midi pan just keep it in the middle. I
seem to be unable to create any kind of a sterio image. The only
thing that seems to come up in sterio is the pro drum works loop
when imported as audios. They will roll right across the sound
stage, but no matter what I try, I cannot seem to get a guitar
solo, or a vocal mike panned anywhere but in the center. Once I
figure this out, I'll be a happy guy.

The MIDI synthe your system uses is probably the Microsoft WaveTable (or, as
JAWS likes to call it, the Wavetable). I have noticed that recent versions
of SONAR do not list that WaveTable driver in the MIDI input and output
options in SONAR and I don't know why. Gordon may know.
If you have a MIDI keyboard that has its own sounds onboard, that's what you
want to connect and use.
