compression and limiting might help. However, for folk music,
what's wrong with some dynamics? Do you really want everything
cranked up near zero when it's primarily acoustic instruments?
If you're using Sound Forge for mastering, try the "normalize to
-16 db, music" preset under Normalize. To hear things taken too
far, try the -10 db Speech preset in the same list.
hope that helps some,
Chris

Ok, so I have my cd that I've recorded of a folk treo. Its mainly
accapella, and I want it to be as loud as possible on the cd, to
be comparible with commercial cds, but when I put a real cd in and
compare the files, the cd audio is much louder than my recordings.
If I try to squeeze any more decibals out of it, it clips. Does
anyone have any tips for mastering, so that I can get it on to the
cd sounding loud but still fresh.
