[ddots-l] Re: level meters

Hi Ross,

In the Cake Talking manual, you'll find step by step directions on what should be configured first, in order to use the level meters. I had the same problem, but here is the solution. I quote:

7. Sometimes, pressing F2, may fail to report the meter levels. In that case, you should check the meter Options menu, to make sure the meter levels are being displayed. here's how to do this.

A. Open the Track Pane Options Dialog by pressing F4.

B. Select Meter Options Menu, and press ENTER. You will find yourself in the Meter Options context menu.

3. There are several items that must be checked in this menu. If a necessary item is not checked, you must press ENTER on it. The menu will then close. So to check multiple items, you must repeatedly open the menu again and again until each necessary item is checked. Now, the following items must be checked in the senior page of this menu.

a. Record Meters.

b. Playback Meters.

c. Bus Meters.

d. Vertical meters.

4. The Meter Context menu also has 3 sub menus. The Record Meter Options sub menu, the Playback Meter Options sub menu, and the output Bus Meter Options sub menu. Make sure the following items are checked in these sub menus.

a. Peak.

b. Show labels.

c. Lock peaks.

d. Hold peaks.

End of quote.

After having done this, retry reading the meters using f2. If it fails, the meters are probably still not configured correctly. Sometimes, Cake Talking reports an item to be unchecked, while you checked it a second ago. So reading the state of the menu items that should be checked is not always accurate. I had to restart the machine in order to regaign a stable readout. Rebooting the project and even unloading and reloading jaws wouldn't fix the problem. Only after restarting xp entirely, the readout was accurate again. So if you've done everything the manual suggests, restarting your machine and then reconfiguring the meters may help.

Paul.

I am using sonar, version 3 with JAWS version 5.1. The level meters are
not
reading input or output levels and I have done all the logical steps with
the F2 key. When I arm a track it says... tracks do not have input
monitoring. When I hit the F2 key a few times, it says... make sure main
and child Windows are maximized. Well, they already should be.

Any ideas?

Ross
