[ddots-l] issues recording vocals

Hello,
I have followed the instructions for recording vocals. pressing "A" to arm the track and followed by "R" to record but I am hearing nothing back. Does anyone have any suggestions or feedback.
I have my microphone connected to the exturnal soundcard correctly as far as I know, but I'm still getting no sound.
