Hey, glad to hear things are improving! When I asked about the chipset
however, I was speaking of the computer's motherboard chipset. Though
firewire chipset is also important if you're using a firewire interface.
You could probably get the motherboard chipset from looking up the model
specs, but remember some systems are customized a bit differently, though if
you bought this off the shelf it should be the same major components,
including the motherboard.
For firewire chipsets, if you have an audio interface that uses firewire,
best bet is to look at what chipsets the manufacturer does and does not
recommend. Texas instruments is for the most part the universal choice, but
some from Via work as well, and from what I've heard, some people who got
crappy performance with texas instruments chipsets had great success with
Via chipsets. Furthermore, there might be a specific chipset from either
company that the interface manufacturer recommends, so do some research. But
in general, unless you bought a laptop that was prepared for audio, if you
don't optimize that one for audio work (and sometimes even if you do), you
just won't get the full performance. This all depends of course on what
you're planning to do in terms of audio work; if you just want to play a few
soft synths, you might be ok. If you want to run synths, realtime effects
and other plugIns all at once, you will most likely run into problems!

Hey everyone.
I did manage to change it to the asio drivers for my sound card and it is
doing a lot better. I had a couple drop outs with the first two midi tracks
but other than that it was good. Latency issue and popping noise is
resolved, but I thing you guys are right my system isn't keeping up. I
loaded the catch me if you can sample and it didn't drop out like it was
yesterday. Asfor my chipset I can i find out what i have. Can i just google
it with my lap top model numberAlso anyone know a good chipset? Chris had
mention a texas instrument chipset. Are they expensive? I found an article
that stated that a good chipset would be the T1394. don't know what that
means.
Also I haven't done a big project involving multiple synth inserts like
demention pro. . If i am having issues now, will they only be worse? I'll
probabley test it out next week because i am prety busy now.
