[ddots-l] Re: gord latency Re: New computer, help needed

Hi Bill
I'm running a multicore here and I am not having the 1884 problems that you describe.
What else are they using because it's not just dependent on Sonar alone.

I tried googling for folks with FW1884 problems with Multicores and quad cores, but really couldn't find anything.

So there is something else afoot here. It's not the 1884. Also before arriving to that kind of conclusion, please update to the latest drivers. There are way to many folks that are running the 1884 with either multi cores or quad cores without any problems.

I think that says quite a bit.

Hi, Stacy,

What audio interface are you using? We have recently learned that some
manufacturers have not upgraded their drivers to support the SONAR
multi-processor option. Check under Options | Audio | Advanced to see if
"Use Multiprocessing Engine" is checked. If it is, uncheck it, close SONAR,
restart and see if you find any major improvements. If you still do not,
try running the Wave Profiler (under Options | Audio | General, I believe),
close SONAR, restart.

One customer who has a very fast quad-core system, learned the hard way
(along with us at DD) that the TASCAM 1884 drivers do not support multi-core
processing. Once he unchecked "Use Multi-Processor", all of his drop-outs
went away! Is anyone using the 1884 with the multiprocessing engine
checked? It would be nice if there was an alternative set of drivers.

Bill

Hi Gord,

At this point in the project I have turned latency up to 100%, I'm just
chizeling the track down with some subtle effects. If I turn the latency
down to even 60% I get the dropout stutter stuff.

It's weird though, I can work on this project for about20 minutes or so
with absolutely no trouble and then the drop outs start happening and I
have to start turning the latency up etc. to get consistent performance
otherwise known as no drop outs and no audio stuttering. Any ideas why
the performance seems to ware down over time, a relatively short time.

Cheers.
