Percussion strip is excellent as a jump off point.

You best bet is to use one of the plugs like boost 11 that comes with Sonar. They have some great starting presets. Personally, I have also liked using the new percussion channel strip that comes with sonar 8.5, though you do have to tweak the presets some because they tend to be a bit over the top like many factory presets do.
