Hi Len,Using both compression and eq will make the drums crisp and lift them out of the mix.
The sonitus has some good presets to start from, you'd only have to tweak them a little.
The Sonitus Compressor has a preset call Drum Destroyer, this really does give the drums lift but at the same time the preset does make the drums sound a little sterile.
It Maybe worth trying on say the snare, the Sonitus compressor Vintage DBX preset plus the Sonitus eq treble boost preset and see if that helps the snare have a more crisp sound.
