[ddots-l] Re: emergency help needed on an audio interface

ADK now and contact this guy?

Phil replied: correct.

Phil replied: you hit the nail on the head when you said, "for the most part."
One question, how come Jim is able to build systems that work with the FW1884
and ADK won't guarantee that? That's because, Jim has years of experience with
building DAW systems and an excellent track record. Not only that, if
something isn't working as it should be with the system, Jim will troubleshoot
it until it is.

I was having some serious issues with a system here that Jim didn't put
together. So, I called Jim and explained the issues to him over the phone.
Jim worked out that the issue I was getting with a MOTU 2408 and the mkII
interface was due to the chipset on the motherboard. Jim suggested an
alternative which, I had fitted. Not only that, Jim didn't charge me a dime
for his time.

When it comes to putting DAW systems together, Sean Cummins always recommends
Jim to his clients. As I am sure your aware, Sean is an AT specialist and
wouldn't recommend someone that he isn't comfortable with. After all, Sean and
I won't do that as we both have a good reputation to keep up, smile.

Damon wrote: Phil. At this stage of the game, I am apprehensive about
changing my order, since I put a lot of time and sweat into researching this
out, and I wanted
to get the system with jaws and sonar already installed, and stuff.

Phil replied: I understand. Yet another reason to go with Jim Roseberry.
Jim would have specked the system up for you and probably installed all of that
too.

Damon wrote: I went with the motu 282 mk3 as an alternative interface. If the
fw works, then I have
16 ins and outs to play with. If it doesn't, I can still control sonar with
the tascam, and I can use its midi, but not its audio, but I can use the audio
in other apps, so I can split off the tascam and motu to do two different
tasks for broadcasting versus studio recording, respectively.

Phil replied: that sounds like an expensive way of doing this.

Damon wrote: I know some who
have ADJK systems who have no problems with the Tascam. And honestly, I don't
want to go through the nightmare of basically canceling my order and starting
this process again. I know Bryan from Dancing Dots personally and I think he
is steering me in the right direction. I hope, anyway.

Phil replied: just trying to save you some money and grief. Bryan is a good
guy. I just wouldn't personally touch an ADK system with a barge pole.

Damon wrote: But, I put a lot of
months into this since I can't record my album on what I already have and
with the motu, I have some extra things at my disposal, internal effects and
compression, a peak limiter so I won't overload the mic inputs like I do on
the tascam because I underestimate vocals all the tiem, and more analog ins
and outs. I may be albe to hook the tascam up to the motu through the adat
connectors and use the audio that way, but I am not sure, have to recheck the
manual on that, maybe I am wrong. So, this isn't a completely bad thing. I
just feel stressed out by trying to do this all again with a new company.

Phil replied: well as I said, Jim would have specked the system up for you in
a few minutes.

Damon wrote: The system is specked out as follows:

  Intel quad core 2.4 ghz

Phil replied: FWIW, that's a slow system isn't it? We are now on to duel
Quod core and beyond.

  4gb ram

Phil replied: no point in putting in 4GB on Windows XP Pro 32 bit as that
will make the system really unstable that is, if your intending to use the 3GB
switch.
