Phil. At this stage of the game, I am apprehensive about changing my order,
since I put a lot of time and sweat into researching this out, and I wanted
to get the system with jaws and sonar already installed, and stuff. I went
with the motu 282 mk3 as an alternative interface. If the fw works, then I
have 16 ins and outs to play with. If it doesn't, I can still control sonar
with the tascam, and I can use its midi, but not its audio, but I can use
the audio in other apps, so I can split off the tascam and motu to do two
different tasks for broadcasting versus studio recording, respectively. I
know some who have ADJK systems who have no problems with the Tascam. And
honestly, I don't want to go through the nightmare of basically canceling my
order and starting this process again. I know Bryan from Dancing Dots
personally and I think he is steering me in the right direction. I hope,
anyway. But, I put a lot of months into this since I can't record my album
on what I already have and with the motu, I have some extra things at my
disposal, internal effects and compression, a peak limiter so I won't
overload the mic inputs like I do on the tascam because I underestimate
vocals all the tiem, and more analog ins and outs. I may be albe to hook the
tascam up to the motu through the adat connectors and use the audio that
way, but I am not sure, have to recheck the manual on that, maybe I am
wrong. So, this isn't a completely bad thing. I just feel stressed out by
trying to do this all again with a new company. The system is specced out as
follows:
Intel quad core 2.4 ghz
4gb ram
Western digital 1000rpm 150gb hard drive as primary
Two Seagate 500gb drives, one for audio, one for samples
I forget what video card they use, and of course, on board sound
I got a dvd drive in there as well as a card reader
I'm sure there is more, but I forget now what I did to the machine.
So, that is where it stands. I don't think what I have is a bad deal
overall. I guessw we'll see.

Damon wrote: OK, so I am buying a computer from adk pro audio through

Phil replied: don't do it.
Damon wrote: I get a call telling me that it is possible that my tascam
fw1884 may not work with
the new system due to some conflict that nobody can seem to track down. I
can use it for midi and control surface functionality, but if the unit
conflicts
with the computer, audio will not work at all, even with small sonar
projects. So, I am trying to plan ahead.
Phil replied: I know of someone who went down the route you are thinking of
and ended up returning the system because every time he armed a track on the
FW1884, there was a massive delay between him hitting the record key on the
FW1884. This issues seemed to improve if he unloaded Jaws from memory.
Damon wrote: Here is what I am thinking.
I'll keep the tascam, and try it out to see if it works and still purchase a
second audio interface.
Phil replied: it's ridiculous that your even having to think about doing
this at all. If ADK are such a great DAW builder then, they should have
been able to track down this issue ages a go. I think the one component in
the system that they haven't tried changing to troubleshoot this is the
motherboard. Bryan from Dancing Dots and I have had discussions at length
with regard to this.
Damon wrote: If the tascam happens to work, then I can chain the
two together and use audio on both units and maybe ditch the line mixer I am
using to get the keyboards into the system. If the tascam doesn't work, I
can use it for midi and control surface and use the audio interface for
getting the audio into the computer. I want to know from you all, with a
budge
of no more than $900 at most, what audio interface I should go with that
will give me the inputs and outputs I need, and whose software control panel
will
be accessible to Jaws. If the unit has effects or whatnot, that's fine.
Also, I am assuming I can connect the adat connector on the tascam to the
adat
connector on the new interface and pipe the audio from the analogue ins to
the adat into the new interface to double my inputs and outputs, right? If
so,
am I thinking about this the right way or is my head firmly planted in my
posterior. Anyway, any suggestions would be hugely appreciated, and I need
information
today because I have to call Bryan from dancing dots back with an answer as
soon as possible. Thanks.
Phil replied: my advice is that you put those extra $900 towards a system
from Jim Roseberry over at:
www.studiocat.com/
Jim has built systems for other DD customers that work well with the FW1884.
