I followed you When you said to send all your backing vocal tracks to a
backing vocals buss. That's how I do it hear. However couldn't you just apply
the
EQ to the backing vocals buss in sted of the individual tracks?
Phil replied: sure you can do that! and that's what I suggested doing.
Neville wrote: I also didn't understand when you said that you could press
applications in the inspector
and set the EQ to post affect or pre affect. I have never seen that in the
inspector. Where would I find such a command? Please excuse my ignorance.
Phil replied: as I said, when focused over the EQ in the inspector, you can
pres the applications key and the pree post option will be in there.

Stacy wrote: Gord, Are you saying that it isn't a good idea to set up a
bus with a preset compression effect and then use the effect sends from several
tracks to be directed
to that "compression bus?
Phil replied: that's a slightly strange way to do it. As gord said,
sends are usually used for Flange, reverb, chorus, delay affects etc. If you
want to use affects on busses such as EQ and compression then, you can however,
in that case, you wouldn't use sends at all, as that wouldn't be the right way
to do this. If you wish to send multiple tracks to busses for use with
compression and EQ then, you would send the track outputs to the buss. For
example, if I had done some backing vocals on a project then, I may set-up a
buss called Backing Vocals. I would then add a compressor such as the Sonitus
Compressor and the Track EQ. If I do use the Track EQ then, I would change it
from pree affect in the inspector, to post, as I would want it to come after
the Sonitus Compressor in the chain. You can change it from pree to post when
focused over it in the track inspector. To do that, press the applications
key, and choose post FX from the menu. Then, I would go back into the track
view, select all of my vocal tracks that I want to send to the backing vocals
buss, go to the output column, and choose the backing vocals buss from the menu.
Stacy wrote: I have been doing this to save CPU system resources etc.
Phil replied: doing it this way will still save CPU resources.
Stacy wrote: Would you recommend using only 1 compression effect for each
track?
Phil replied: not necessarily. If you have a lot of backing vocals being
sung by the same person then, it may be better to send them to a bus, rather
than using individual compression and EQ for each track.
