OK, guys. I am having some thoughts and questions and may be you can help
me.
1. Firstly, does anybody have a Tascam fw1884 and can assist me with
panel layout and some advanced stuff? I know there are people out there that
I used to talk with who convinced me to get the thing. I have it and love
it, but need some advanced assistance, especially in the realm of setting
decent levels.
2. Speaking of levels, I have a rode nt1a going into a presonus tube
pre mic preamp, going into the tascam. When I do vocals, I get everything n
fine, when my cousin sings, his loud parts are distorting and sometimes I
don't hear this until after the track is done. Do I need to use a preamp
with the tascam, and if so, does anybody use the tube pre and can tell me
how to set this thing properly? Also, how can I tell when tomething is
peaking going into the tascam? I have his gain set to almost 9:00, I can go
lower, but then it is hard to hear him sing with the other tracks, I suppose
I could just lower the tracsk themselves, but I am not sure how to work all
of this.
3. 3.
4. Speaking of the preamp, I am wondering what a good preamp is to
help bring out a better sound of the rode nt1a mid. The presonus seems no
better than the preamps in the tascam or the 01v digital mixer that I have.
I want something that will really bring out the sound of this mic. Any
suggestions?
5. Lastly, I have alesis monitor 1 mkii active monitors going into a
krk subwoofer. I am wondering is there are better monitors out there. I
suppose I could get the krk matching set for the sub, but are the Alesis
monitor still good ones or have they been rendered obsolete by newer and
better ones? Also, where is the best placement for a subwoofer? Right now, I
have it sitting on something off to my left and it is not directly under me
or anything. Is a subwoofer even needed in mixing situations? Previously
before I got the thing, I was having a hard time getting the bass mix right
through the 6 inch woofers of the alesis, and my mixes would come out bassy
as a result. I am still trying to wrestle with proper equalization and
compression, and I am having problems enough with these concepts, but maybe
it would be clearer if I had proper speaker placement to begin with. I know
we can then get into room acoustics, which I can't do much about, sadly, but
the monitors are very close to my head, so I don't think that is the issue
at all.
6. Lastly, Does anybody use big freaking drums and have any tips on
how to get this working right? I am trying to bgt this thing to work, it is
not super jaws friendly, and I can't get any sounds to play when I hit keys
on my keyboard. The module does work since if we click a drum with the
mouse, it plays, but I want to play this synth from my keyboard. If anybody
has a clue on how to get this to work, I'm all ears. Thanks.
