[ddots-l] Re: asio or wdm

WDM kernel streaming was developed for use in Sonar. Supposedly, it is supposed to work better with Sonar however, my personal experience has been that ASIO drivers work better.

Well supposedly acio uses direct hardware streaming, where it I think talks
directly to the hardware and eliminates microsoft's and other intermediary
drivers or software. It makes sense that cubase would work better with
acio, didn't steinberg make acio anyways? Who made wdm, is there any
software intervention like dx or something that might prevent wdm from
directly talking to the hardware...which could make a difference, however
it's a hardware issue, because some hardware works great with acio and
others are no good! So it's a few different implementations, but theirs is
no better than or worst than...

Can anyone shed light as to why one is better the other?
I understand that asio is suppose to be better but I don't know what makes
it so.
