[ddots-l] Re: anti-virus and daws

That is correct. I've heard horror stories on Tech Talk on U.S. radio of
sighted users who un-installed Norton and, because Norton is so intertwined
into the operating system with alternate DLL and such that it does not do a
proper job of removing itself. End result is users can't no longer access the
web.

Norton actually has special removal tools on their web site that you should
have before attempting removal. These are supposed (according to Norton) to do
the removal job correctly.

Risky, I think. But if you have to, then definitely have the Norton tools
available first.

Also do you have a recovery disk handy, in case of disaster?

Dave

You mean just doing an uninstall on norton doesn't remove it entirely from
your system?

Symantec is Norton. If you've already got it on your computer, no need to
remove it now, you'll have to reload the OS to do that. (There is a Norton
Removal Tool, but sometimes it doesn't work.) I've found Kaspersky to be
reliable and maintenance free. -Andy

Yes. Norton is way too heavy on system resources. Go with AVG instead.

          Hello,

I've heard that Norton Antivirus is especially not recommended on daw
systems. Is there a reason for this, or is it because of norton conflicting
with jaws?

          Thanks
