Kylee, I'm sorry to say that Sonar is definitely not an audio editor. Its really just a midi sequencer with extended audio facilities. It's designed for making music that also involves softsynths and hardsynths. I admit that I sometimes use it for very corse edits but its no good for splicing or tight crossfades.

If you need to carry out fine edits then you'll need either SoundForge (for one track stereo) or Adobe Audition (for multitrack), either is accessible.

Its not just a question of resolution, the real difference is the ease of navigating through the file. Both programs have keystrokes for previewing edits and playing up to the cursor, after the cursor and the few seconds around the cursor. Its also much easier to move around in the file and select regions of audio for editing. This is extremely important if you're working to a deadline and have to move fast.

So how useful can any editor be if you can't control the zoom? Some of the
edits I have to do in my work are quite fine and complex depending on the
actuality and the talent. Is this not going to be up to the task? Should I
just revert to SoundForge?

Actually, there doesn't appear to be any means of setting the scrub zoom
on the TranzPort either. It just seems to be set at a reasonable
default.

there aut to be a way in which any control surface could use the same consept as the transport, meaning if you can emulate a mackey control frontier should make it possible to allow for any control serface to use the scrubb feature.

Acutally the scrubb feature works not to bad on my project mix, if only
I
could figure how to set the scrub zoom, that would be grand. I'm going
to
give the folks at M-audio a call, and see if they can't make it possible
to
allow to set the zoom.
