if you're looking for an excellent stereo compressor with built-in side chain filter, wet/dry mix control, range, check out "The Glue" by Cytomic Software. It's an emulation of the SSL master bus compressor, and it beats the more expensive Waves and UA versions.

It's meant as a master bus compressor but damn, I use it on evrything, thanks to the very inteligent preset bank. Unless I'm after a specific sound, like Waves SSL channel emulations or someone's take on a LA2A or 1176, The Glue is fast becoming my go to compressor.

You can't access the load/save buttons in the plug-in interface, but all the preset and settings files are just xml and with human readable values! you won't get something like "ratio 1.0152357, but an actual ratio that makes sense. Open a preset in notepad and just adjust things to match in the track inspector to check it out.

One more thing. It has selectable linear-phaze oversampling. Great, but a real CPU hog. You can keep it turned off for realtime and have it set to maximum for rendering. That way it won't bog things down while you're working, and will apply maximum quality to things when you render your project down at the end.

Thanks Chris! I am mainly interested in comps and limiters, I did see
something about a valve amp simulator or something, so will have to check
that tubey goodness out lol. I Will take some of those plugs up for a spin
after I install my new ssd and make a stable image etc.

Hi DJX.

They offer some things that are transparent, and others that go out of their
way to add warmpth or character, simulated tubey goodness.
You'll have to just check them out. :)

Personally, I have more compressors and EQ's than I need already, so for me,
the only Voxengo I'm using is their Elephant limiter. I really like it, when
my usual first choice doesn't seem to suit the material.

Before Voxengo Elephant, I was using the Sonnox limiter plug-in, until I
noticed that pushing it hard collapses the stereo image.
