So do you have to physically turn down or turn off your monitors while
recording vocals?

Jim. I bought two y cables as unfortunately the FW-1884 only spits out audio
on outputs 1 and 2. Then, I plugged one Y cable into the left output and the
second Y cable into the right output. I then connected my left studio monitor
and the left side of the headphone amp to the left Y cable and the right studio
monitor and the right headphone cable from the headphone amp to the Y cable
coming out of the right hand output [output 2] on the FW-1884. Alternatively,
you could send out the audio via SPDIF if you have anything that can receive
SPDIF.
