Hi Sharon,
It's going rather off topic for the list, but then again, it
is in our interest to protect our systems.
Be assured this is no Urban Legend. If you Google for just
"Storm Trojan" quite a bit comes up, including the
following.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/08/14/Record-breaking-St
orm-Trojan_1.html
The following comes from the same highly reliable Microsoft
contact of mine who is right in the thick of it.
"Sadly, these are on the rise.
"They were disguising them as e-cards until 2-3 days ago
when they changed the format of the SPAM. The SPAMbots are
centrally controlled, normally via an IRC channel and can be
reconfigured on the fly. They are aggressively recruiting
and will rent the network of compromised systems to the
highest bidder.
"It is a massive international business.
"This particular lot are Eastern European but cybercriminals
can be found pretty much anywhere."
All the best,
George.

Hey george,
I tried to find info about the Win32 Storm Trojan, but so
far I haven't seen
it in the Urban Legend reference pages, and a Google search
pulled up those
sites I'm not very familiar with. I also got a skeptical
response from
another list. It sounds like he wants to see the real
thing.
thanks much!
sharon
