Well, You will want to use two sends instead. With your present setup, if you
try using input monitoring while recording, some very nasty stuff will start
happening. I am not familiar with the 1622 specifically so I don't know how
many sends and busses it has. If it has an extra pair of sub outputs, that's
what you would use. Otherwise, you would use a pair of effect sends and if
possible, set them to pre fader. Then, only turn up the sends on the channels
you want to record.

So I noticed about the XLR's being main outs.
So what would your suggestion be for a proper setup for my 1622FX with Sonar?
Shall I leave those XLR's or pull them?
if I pull them, what should the setup be? As it stands, the XLR's are
connected to the preamps on inputs 1 and 2 of the delta, and the preamps are
set to line. Those are going to the XLR outs on the 1622.
I have the outputs of the delta going into 2 inputs on the 1622fx.
I also have my speakers connected to the 2 connections labeled moniters in
the back of the 1622fx..
