Gordon,
If you're not sending this to the MIDI-Mag list then you're missing a much
larger audience.
A couple points:
Yes, you can save the BIAB project as MIDI type 1 and bring up in Sonar. Works
pretty well. However I suspect that real drums and real tracks are just
substituted by equivalent MIDI and I don't think you can use the real stuff in
Sonar.
No more than those 5 accompaniment instruments as far as I know. Of course you
can add more in Sonar, but not sure what happens in BIAB. I suspect that you
could import the entire MIDI to a single melody track in BIAB but you wouldn't
have them separate. But then go to the melody sequencer in BIAB. You might be
able to separate them into tracks. I haven't tried that myself, as I don't try
to push BIAB more than for what it's intended.

Subject: [ddots-l] Sonar and band in a box
Hi
I have two queries with a couple of sub questions.
I recently bought both Sonar 7 Producer and also Band IN A Box Ultra. I know
quite a bit about audio recording, but as regards midi I'm lost.
In Band in a Box and I suspect with Sonar the setup says to use general midi
and if gm2 is available then go for this. My computer has an internal Sound Max
audio card, but I also use an Alesis Multimix as an output. (Non midi I think).
1. I would like to bring into sSonar arrangements made by Band in the Box
preserving the styles, especially those new real samples ones, not the midi.
How do I do this especially if a BB project has real styles and midi ones
combined?
2. I'm not able to access GM2 instruments even although the setting is
ticked. Does this mean I don't have them?
3. I'm not too impressed with the midi sounds in GM1 especially for strings,
brass and human voices. I've tried them in BB (band in a box) and I assume
they're the same in Sonar. What can I do to get more realistic sounds - if this
means a new soundcard or playing them through a midi keyboard, has anyone any
suggestions?
4. For Band in a Box users I like the general use of styles, but they are
limited to 5 or 6 channels - from drums through piano guitar, audio track
harmony etc. Once I have a style with instruments I like but then wish to add
more (like synthetic human voicese.g. the oos and ahs, how do I do this. Do I
have to import into Sonar and then add these or can it be done in Band In A box?
Regards.
