Bill,

        On the subject of Jaws, Windows and computers in general, I'm not
worried in the least.

        I did do some audio training about 15 years ago, but have forgotten
more than I remember. I do have a basic understanding of some of the
concepts involved and at least one musically minded friend to ask advice
from.

        I'm quite happy to read tutorials and learn as I go, but this isn't
an application that I can afford to buy unless I'm reasonably sure it will
be suitable.


        It does look as though it's what I need to be able to do what I'd
like to, so it looks as though the rest will be up to me. *Smile.

        Just one last question, if I may, which is the best version of Sonar
to buy? The current version of CakeTalking is 4, but I notice on your web
site that Sonar 5 is out and that CakeTalking 5 may be close behind it?

It depends on what you mean by "no experience".  Everyone comes to using
SONAR with a different set of skills and musical experiences.
 
There's no doubt that anyone who approaches SONAR with CakeTalking should be
an experienced JAWS user and someone who is prepared to do some homework by
reading our tutorial and learning something new each day.  

I have found that a one-semester studio recording course I took (gulp!) 25
years ago and my limited experience in various recording studios as a
performer have helped me to understand many of the concepts in SONAR.  I
suppose the best summary is to say that the more you know about recording
concepts and techniques, about JAWS and about Windows, the quicker you'll
get to the place where you can get the most out of SONAR.  I also like to
remind everyone I know (including myself) that we have reached a point with
technology in general where it is virtually impossible for anyone to "know
it all".  We must learn just what we need to know to get a particular job
done and then just go and get it done!
