Sonar and sound forge both allow you to loop samples. I don't know how
much
information you know about how to do this, so I won't go any further in to
it at the moment. I think you can do more with sound forge in terms of
loops
than sonar but I've never tried much in sound forge.
Let's get on to what I do know then.
Sonar is great, but I think but not for djs, or at least not for me
anyway.
Here is what I use to mix.
A copy of winamp. YOu can get it for free at
www.winamp.com
Then when you've installed that and, go to
www.winamp.com, go to the option which says search and type in pacemaker.
You'll have to then press enter on the drop down menue and select plugins,
hit the search button or go button as its called here, and download it.
Using it is very simple.
I could go on, but if I'm on the wrong lines there's no point. If you want
to try them steps first, let me know then I'll continue explaining.
Inscidentally, i still use sonar for mixing, but we'll get to why and how
later perhaps.
Good luck till then.

Dave,
Sorry, my inexperience probably makes my terminology a little bit
vague.
I'd like to be able to take loops and samples that already exist and
mix them together to form new tracks. I'd also like to be able to extract
samples from existing tracks and possibly in the far off future to be
able
to create my own tracks from scratch, although this won't be for quite
some
time!
As I said, I've got no experience of doing this, but I very much
like to dance. I've often had some good ideas for dance/house music
tracks
that I'd like to dance to, usually based on liking an existing pop song,
which I think could be mixed in with a better bass beat and so forth.
I very loosely know the rudiments of accomplishing this, as a friend
of mine is a DJ, although he tends to mix live from vinyl records, rather
than digitally like I'm looking to.
I hope this clarifies things a bit anyway.
Tink.

Hi! When you say "mix dance music" I'm just trying to understand exactly
what you mean. Do you mean you want to record a dj set? Or would you like
to
remix a dance tracks? Or even make dance music of your own?
Let me know and I'll see what I can do to help.
